Camera and internet shuffling - again
Unfortunately but not surprisingly, Alltel EVDO service in Charleston has similar down/up speeds to Raleigh, but much higher latency (pings exceeding 400ms). This means that my voice-over-IP line will not work at the house/office here in West Virginia. So, it's back to the internet access drawing board. The cable company here has a very basic internet package for around 20 bucks a month - you only get the slowest speeds, around 2 megs down and 150K up - but it is more than enough to support VOIP. So it looks like I'll be keeping the permanent internet at the house. An extra 20 bucks isn't bad considering I'll get to keep my current phone setup, plus not having to constantly shuffle the aircard/mobile router from the house to the car.
Since the house will be maintaining its full-time internet, I figured I might as well put a camera back up. I reactivated the east-facing sky camera which will be a permanent view from the Charleston house. This brings the number of camera feeds up to 3. The second camera will then be running as the portable view, set up wherever I'm working (Charleston, Raleigh, etc). The third camera remains the ChaseCam feed, which is only active during chases and trips of interest.
