Due to chaser traffic concerns, 2011 is the first year since 2000 that I did not make a trip to the Great Plains in the spring. My storm chasing in 2011 was done entirely within the Midwest region, and as usual, it did not disappoint. I came away with two tornadoes and some memorable supercell, hail and storm structure events, all within a couple of hours of home. A year like 2011 is the reason I chose to live in the Midwest, and shows that quality storm chasing can be had outside of the Great Plains.
