Hurricane Rita hits Beaumont, Texas

Date filmed: September 24, 2005
Location: Beaumont, Texas
Total footage: 9:40
Scenes: 28 clips
Speed: Realtime
Class: Premium Severe Weather

Description: The inner core and eyewall of Hurricane Rita slams into Beaumont, Texas. A fallen power line arcs and sparks loudly on the ground with orange and blue flames. High winds and rain rocket through the streets of downwtown Beaumont. A construction barrel is tossed around downtown streets. Traffic lights and trees reel in the powerful gusts. Photographers covering the storm brave the winds and rain. Later, as Rita's intense western eyewall moves through, a hospital helipad running on generator power provides light to show the dramatic spectacle of 100-mile-per-hour sustained winds steadily roaring past.
