Web Site Copyright Statement & Terms of Use

All content on the Storm Highway site (and all Appalachian Skies web sites including StormScenes and Stormscenes HD) is protected by copyright, including all photographs, video, graphics, text, and web design layout. Any and all usage of content on the stormhighway.com, stormscenes.com, hdweathervideo.com and appalachianskies.com web sites (including commercial, educational, and non-profit usage) requires a paid license.

A large amount of work and funds are necessary to keep our sites up and running as an online resource. We spend a significant amount of funds every year in equipment, travel and administrative expenses to obtain the footage and photographs that appear on this site. Hundreds of hours of work and tens of thousands of miles of travel go into the Storm Highway web site every year to keep it a current source of severe weather information. Simply stated, doing what we do takes a lot of hard work and costs a lot of money! This means we are not able to give our material away for free. If you represent a non-profit or educational organization, we would be happy to work with you to supply material that fits your budget - just give us a call.

The following terms of use apply to all content on the Storm Highway and appalachianskies.com web sites, including all text, photographs, video and graphics.

Our material is registered with the United States Copyright Office, and our attorneys quickly and aggressively pursue legal remedy in all copyright infringement cases involving our material. Please report any suspected infringement of our material by contacting us privately.

  1. Web linking or copying: External linking is permitted to html pages only. Direct linking to photos, video clips or graphics is prohibited. Direct linking not only uses our bandwith, but prevents the visitor from viewing the copyright notices and terms of use guidelines. Furthermore, direct linking to video and photos prevents visitors from exploring links to the rest of our site.

Copying our material (including photos, video, text, graphics, video screen captures, etc.) to other web sites, galleries, newsgroups, viral video sites, listservers, ftp servers, file sharing services, video hosting sites (including but not limited to YouTube, Google Video or any other web site) or any outside medium is strictly prohibited. We quickly and aggressively pursue legal remedy in all copyright infringement cases involving our material copied to other sites.

  2. Commercial usage of text, photos or video: Any incorporation of our work (photo, video, graphics or text) into commercial or business works (including but not limited to advertisements, brochures, presentations, news stories, artwork, decor, displays, packaging, web sites, etc.) requires a signed and paid written license from Appalachian Skies Media, LLC. We would be happy to assist you in securing a license, please contact us for more information

  3. Non-commercial use of text, photos or video: We offer licensing of our material into non-profit or educational works for reduced rates. We cannot offer free usage of any of our content. Please contact us for more information.

  4. Free use of text, photos or video not available: Due to prohibitive costs and time constraints, unfortunately we cannot offer content usage (photo, video or text) free of charge. For non-profit applications, we do offer discounted rates. Please contact us for more information.

  5. Infringement - Breach of the above terms is a violation of US law and constitutes copyright infringement. Due to the expense of our operation and value of our material, we have no choice but to legally and aggressively pursue infringement cases to protect our investments.
We appreciate your visit and your assistance in observing thes guidelines - assuring that we will continue to be able to provide up-to-date video and photo content to the Storm Highway and appalachianskies.com sites.

Why do you take copyright infringement so seriously?

Our video and photography is our primary business product. Sale of this material is an important source of our revenue to stay in business - it is how the 'bills are paid' and how we finance our many expenses such as fuel, vehicle and camera equipment maintenance, data access fees, and many other costs of running a business. Our video and photography material is no different than products sitting on a store shelf. When our material is taken and used without payment, it is no different from an individual taking items off of a store shelf and walking out with them. Just like shoplifting is a serious offense against a store, copyright infringement is a serious offense against our business. Therefore, we put effort into finding and pursuing all instances of infringement involving our photography and video products. We contract with a law firm who swiftly and aggressively takes action on our behalf in all instances of infringement involving our material. Please report any suspected infringement of our material by contacting us privately.
