Travel was impossible after Isabel's landfall due to hundreds of trees and power lines blocking nearly every road in the area in multiple places. This tree on Route 308 near Windsor, North Carolina forced us to turn around and try other routes which were also blocked. Fallen trees, downed power lines, and curfew-enforcing police turned a normally 2-hour drive back to our lodging in Virginia Beach into a 12-hour marathon detour.
