From Dan: How the crime of copyright infringement took $1 million from me and shut down my operation.

In September of 2025, my work is generating the most income it ever has in my career. Yet, I'm being forced to shut down my successul operation, against my will, due to one cause alone: 95% of that revenue is being stolen by piracy and copyright infringement. I've lost more than $1 million to copyright infringement in the last 15 years, and it's finally brought an end to my professional storm chasing operation. Do not be misled by the lies of infringers, anti-copyright activists and organized piracy cartels. This page is a detailed, evidenced account of my battle I had to undertake to just barely stay in business, and eventually could not overcome. It's a problem faced by all of my colleagues and most other creators in the field.

I completed another big project this week to redesign the front page of the web site. By the time you read this, this new design should be installed onto all of the subpages, including the blog. The motivation was to give a greater emphasis on the St. Louis Photography and Prints Gallery to parallel my efforts in building up that aspect of my photography endeavors.

I have also made a significant investment this week to begin building an inventory of prints. This is the first step in the process of putting together a show booth for use primarily next year (but hopefully sooner). Not only are many art show deadlines 6 months or more in advance, but you must also have a complete and "polished" booth setup, and a decent inventory, to be considered. Therefore this will be a long process to get started. Here's a sneak peek "behind the scenes" of some of the print shipments I'm going to be working with:

I framed four of the prints for a photo shoot for the web site, the results of that can be seen in the banner rotator at the top of this page. Here's a look at a 12" x 18" metal print of the August 4, 2012 St. Louis Arch lightning that I picked up on Thursday. Metal prints are a relatively new product out there, and I'm already a big fan. They really pop with vibrance and color. These can be wall mounted or set up with a stand display, as shown here.

I have a few other photo products on order that will arrive next week, including a direct-to-glass print and a new type of metal print design. Once those get here, I'll move on to getting the booth finished up.
