The models show a strong signal for an Arctic air mass to plunge southward across the eastern US to start out the new year. The GFS shows the potential for upslope snow in the Appalachians from Monday night all the way to Thursday and beyond. Keeping in mind the GFS's tendency to exaggerate low temps, it is still interesting to see upper 20s and even some sleet/snow reaching south Florida by mid-week!
