I've been traveling to Chicago for 20 years to capture lightning striking the city's iconic skyscrapers, including the Sears Tower and John Hancock Center, on still photographs, video and high-speed cameras. When I started covering this subject in 2006, only the Sears and Hancock were the supertall structures in the city. Since then, several more have been built, transforming the skyline from the typical vantage points. The Chicago skyscraper lightning saga has involved many long days and nights, poor sleep and many trips where good storms or any lightning were no-shows. But the few great storms have made all of that worth it. This page lists all of my Chicago skyscraper lightning photography expeditions from 2006 to present.
