Tree Lightning Damage: Fresh scar

This tree in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston, WV, was struck by lightning sometime in the spring of 2000. The lightning left a clean 4-inch wide scar from the treetop down to the roots. This tree appears to be healthy for the time being, but will be unable to survive harsh weather conditions and parasites.
