From Dan: How the crime of copyright infringement took $1 million from me and shut down my operation.

In September of 2025, my work is generating the most income it ever has in my career. Yet, I'm being forced to shut down my successul operation, against my will, due to one cause alone: 95% of that revenue is being stolen by piracy and copyright infringement. I've lost more than $1 million to copyright infringement in the last 15 years, and it's finally brought an end to my professional storm chasing operation. Do not be misled by the lies of infringers, anti-copyright activists and organized piracy cartels. This page is a detailed, evidenced account of my battle I had to undertake to just barely stay in business, and eventually could not overcome. It's a problem faced by all of my colleagues and most other creators in the field.

Stopped for a drink at a Sonic in Mt. Vernon, MO, taking a break from driving and checking email - might as well post an update. I left Tulsa this morning around 1PM after a nice long night's sleep, which means I'll be more than up to making the full 14-hour trip home in one shot today (ETA of around 4AM EDT).

I am always thankful to be able to spend some time in the Plains every year, as it seems like every spring recently, I'm never sure if I'm going to be able to do it. I'm very happy with the way this trip turned out, despite missing the one good tornado day that occured. As I've said before, my goal coming out here is to just get at least one great shot to bring home - I think I've definately been blessed with that. A big thanks goes out to Justin and Bridget Teague for the guest room in Tulsa and Greg McLaughlin for a seat in his vehicle - both made staying out the extra days possible.

The rest of May is still open, and I'm tentatively planning on a second trip whenever the atmosphere decides what it's going to do. Until then, it's back to standby/long range forecasting mode. I will try to get full chase logs with photos up tomorrow afternoon, as Monday will be full-on 'back-to-work' mode.

Have greatly enjoyed following your travels and look forward to seeing more. Was going to see if you needed a cheap hotel (ie the one I work for) but saw you had it all covered. Best wishes for a safe trip home.
