My front porch light occasionally attracts some impressive moth species. Here is a huge Polyphemus moth that was waiting for me on my front door when I got home tonight:
This guy has one weird-looking face. Slight resemblance to an owl:
It's flying around my office now, looking/sounding like a bird and creating a breeze! Hard to believe that it has the energy to keep itself airborne for that long. That's actually not the biggest moth I've seen here at the house. In June of 2004, a slightly larger Luna moth was hanging out in the same spot (on my front door under the porch light), here's a photo:
