icyroadsafety.com - November 2009 updates
I just completed some major updates to the icyroadsafety.com web site over the weekend. The first is a redesign of the home page that prominently displays the current accident toll at the top. This is probably the most important pat of the web site and the entire awareness effort, second only to the video in the evidence that this hazard is one that deserves attention and coverage.
The second major addition to the site is an array of link banners that webmasters/bloggers can integrate into their pages. Code is provided, so adding the banners to your site is a simple copy-and-paste of code. One set of the banners is dynamic, updating the current accident toll on the fly. The second set is a selection of more traditional static JPG images. In appreciation for those that add a banner to their sites, I will reciprocate with a link on the partners page. Please consider adding a banner, or at least a link, on your web site or blog. Below is an example of one of the large-sized dynamic link banners:
The third major reconfiguration of the site was converting the pages from php to SSI, as many of the scripts I currently use don't work with php pages. This change is transparent, except for anyone who has bookmarked any of the php subpages, in which case a redirect page will appear.
As far as the season goes (as you can see by the toll count on the above banner) accident rates have been on the increase since October. Eight fatalities have been recorded in the last two days alone.
