Lightning on CCTV - New Baden, IL - March 17
In September of 2025, my work is generating the most income it ever has in my career. Yet, I'm being forced to shut down my successul operation, against my will, due to one cause alone: 95% of that revenue is being stolen by piracy and copyright infringement. I've lost more than $1 million to copyright infringement in the last 15 years, and it's finally brought an end to my professional storm chasing operation. Do not be misled by the lies of infringers, anti-copyright activists and organized piracy cartels. This page is a detailed, evidenced account of my battle I had to undertake to just barely stay in business, and eventually could not overcome. It's a problem faced by all of my colleagues and most other creators in the field. |
I had to work during the two rounds of storms that moved through the STL metro on Saturday afternoon and evening (March 17). I was able to peek outside the door to get a few glimpses as the storms approached and moved over - and thankfully, for the most part, they were not very painful to have to miss. With weak winds at all levels, there was not a good environment for severe weather in place aside for the potential for spotty hail (that nearly any thunderstorm day is capable of producing). The lightning wasn't even that impressive, mostly sporadic/random and imbedded in the rain save for a few brief bursts of higher activity. Certainly not much that would have made for a great day had I been able to be out (and burning gas at $4/gallon).
When I got home, I went through my CCTV footage and pulled off a few lightning strikes that the cameras managed to capture. Nothing earth-shattering, but at least something to look at from the day.
